A complete groom works best when each stage prepares the coat for the next. The groomer begins with a visual and hands-on check, then adjusts the bath, drying and brushing approach to suit the coat and the pet’s response.

Coat assessment
The Requested Style Has to Match the Coat
Photos and length preferences are useful, but the coat determines what can be completed comfortably. Tight matting can limit brushing and may require a shorter finish. Dense undercoat, heavy shedding or a long gap between grooms can also add time.
What can change the plan
- Matting close to the skin or in friction areas
- Compacted undercoat that needs extended brushing and drying
- Skin redness, sores, parasites or other concerns that should be reviewed by a veterinarian
- Movement, fear or sensitivity that makes a technique unsafe
- A style request that cannot be achieved at the current coat length
A real salon should explain any necessary adjustment before proceeding whenever possible. The demo matting and handling policies show how those decisions can be communicated.
Comfort and safety
Practical Handling Matters More Than a Perfect Finish
The groom should be adjusted or stopped when continuing would create an unsafe level of stress. GroomAI can collect notes, but it cannot diagnose behaviour, approve sedation or decide how to handle an emergency.
Anxious Dogs
Share previous grooming reactions, known triggers and the parts of the process your dog finds difficult. A groomer can then decide whether a shorter or modified visit is appropriate.
Medical Concerns
Skin, mobility, breathing, seizure or medication concerns need direct human review. Urgent symptoms belong with a veterinarian, not a grooming chatbot.
Service Limits
Unsafe aggression, severe distress or a coat condition outside the salon’s capability may require the appointment to end or be referred elsewhere.

Arrive with your dog securely leashed and share the information that affects handling, coat work and timing. Avoid trying to remove severe matting at home with scissors, as skin can be pulled into the mat.

How long does a full dog groom take?
The demo uses an approximate range of 2–4 hours. Size, coat density, drying time, matting, behaviour and the requested haircut can all change the timing.
Does the full groom include nail trimming?
Yes. The sample full-groom package includes nail trimming when it can be completed safely. A pet who cannot tolerate the step may need the service adjusted.
Can a heavily matted coat be brushed out?
Not always. Prolonged dematting can be uncomfortable and may damage skin or coat. A shorter haircut may be the safer option after a groomer assesses the pet.
Can GroomAI tell me whether my dog needs sedation?
No. Sedation is a medical matter that must be discussed with a veterinarian and a qualified groomer. The demo assistant does not provide medical or handling clearance.
